Learning Lessons from Disaster Recovery: The Case of Honduras July 2008 Author: World Bank This study was conducted as part of the lessons learned after major natural disasters review, carried out by the ProVention Consortium. It comprised a field mission and a community survey. Hurricane Mitch was an exceptional event, which hit Honduras in 1998, resulting in the largest natural disaster experienced in Honduras in recent memory. Honduras was particularly vulnerable to its effects because of environmental degradation, rapid population growth, inadequate infrastructure, and massive disparities in the distribution of wealth.

Natural Disaster Hotspots – Case Studies 2006 Author: World Bank The Hotspots initiative aims to identify geographic areas that are most vulnerable to hazards. The project results consist of a global analysis of disaster risks associated with six major natural hazards – cyclones, droughts, earthquakes, floods, landslides, and volcanoes. Three case studies address specific hazards. Three other case studies address regional multi-hazard situations in Sri Lanka, the Tana River basin in Kenya, and the city of Caracas, Venezuela.

Learning Lessons from Disaster Recovery: The Case of Mozambique 2005 Author: World Bank This report is part of a ProVention Consortium review of lessons learned from recovery after major natural disasters analysing the strengths and weaknesses of recovery assistance from governments, donors, and civil society after the disasters occurred. Mozambique offers an example of a post-conflict country faced with major flood events in 2000 and 2001. It also offers an example of recovery in an extremely poor and primarily subsistence livelihood population. The review provides an overview of the recovery processes and highlights livelihoods and agriculture.
